What is Orthokeratology?
Orthokeratology, sometimes known as “Ortho-K”, “Corneal Reshaping”, “Dreamlens” or “CRT” is a contact lens technology that allows you to get rid of glasses and daytime contacts without eye surgery. Ortho-K lenses are rigid, gas-permeable contact lenses worn while sleeping so you can have perfect vision all day without correction.
The Orthokeratology lenses work by gently changing steepness of the cornea (the front surface of the eye). This changes the way light focuses in the back of the eye so that you enjoy clear vision all day long.
Is The Treatment Permanent?
No. Orthokeratology is completely temporary. If you stop wearing the lenses for a few weeks, your cornea will return to the original pretreatment shape.
How Often Do I Need To Wear The Lenses?
Most patients will wear the lenses every night but many others can wear them less frequently; sometimes as little as every other night. This will often depend on your current prescription.
Am I a Good Candidate?
If you are nearsighted and tired of contacts or glasses, you will probably like OrthoK. The technology is usually effective for up to -6.00D of nearsightedness and -1.50D of astigmatism. Orthokeratology in farsighted patients is less effective but possible in some cases.
