What is Gentle Vision Shaping System?

Gentle Vision Shaping System (GVSS), sometimes known as “Ortho-K”, “Corneal Reshaping”, “Dreamlens” or “CRT” is a contact lens technology that allows you to get rid of glasses and daytime contacts without eye surgery.  GVSS uses a retainer on the eyes which is worn while sleeping.  In the morning, you take out the retainer lenses, then you can enjoy perfect vision all day without correction.

The GVSS retainer lenses work by gently changing steepness of the cornea (the front surface of the eye).  This changes the way light focuses in the back of the eye so that you enjoy clear vision all day long.

Is The Treatment Permanent?

No.  GVSS is completely temporary.  If you stop wearing the retainers for a few weeks, your cornea will return to the original pretreatment shape.

How Often Do I Need To Wear The Lenses?

Most patients will wear the lenses every night but many others can wear them less frequently; sometimes as little as every other night.  This will often depend on your current prescription.

Am I a Good Candidate?

sleepIf you are nearsighted and tired of contacts or glasses, you will probably like GVSS.  The technology is usually effective for up to -6.00D of nearsightedness and -1.50D of astigmatism.  GVSS in farsighted patients is less effective but possible in some cases.

Athletes and other highly active people who like the outdoors or water sports will love GVSS.  Other patients like it because soft contacts worn during the daytime make their eyes dry and irritated.  Also, research has shown that GVSS can prevent nearsightedness from getting worse in kids and adolescents.
